Artist Talk: Melissa Gwyn

Wed, Apr 17, 2013, 9:00 pm to Thu, Apr 18, 2013, 9:30 pm
CNM Campus, Smith-Brasher Hall, Room 100
717 University Blvd SE (near Coal & University Blvd SE)

April 17th 6pm:

Join 516 ARTS and guest curator Lea Anderson in welcoming visiting San Francisco-based artist Melissa Gwyn to Albuquerque for a unique presentation and talk at CNM's Smith-Brasher Hall. Gwyn will give a presentation on her decades long painterly preoccupation with surface, illusion, rupture and revelation. In paintings that are non-representational and realistic, kitschy and substantial, Gwyn's work rests between the idiosyncratic and the political. In her series Fabergenic, Gwyn explores the subjects of inheritance, opulence and power. For more information, visit 516arts.org

April 18th 6:30pm:

516 ARTS premieres the first in the new series "516 Artist-in-Person" featuring an hour of artists talks, demos and conversations. Join Flatlanders & Surface Dwellers visiting artist Melissa Gwyn along with local artists Jessica Kennedy and Ivan Boyd for an evening of fruitful exchange about artistic processes and concepts.
