ARTSCY highlights creators who merge art, design, science, and technology. The site features projects that engage with the materials, procedures, and discourses of the life sciences.

Materialists incorporate biological material into their art-making process. They create with light, water, soil, stones, DNA, cells, microbes, human and animal bodies, and plants.

Simulators discover the rules of biological systems and create new physical and virtual systems. They explore the mechanisms of an environment and the perceptions and behaviors of that environment’s inhabitants. They create visualizations and animations, build aquariums and terrariums, develop virtual worlds, and craft mechanical creatures that mimic their organic counterparts.

Synthesists highlight the mingling of humans, animals, microbes, plants, machines, and materials. They imagine chimeras and cyborgs, propose new becomings, and examine unfamiliar phenomenological interactions.
