Chancellor Unveils Art Professor Galuszka Installation

Wed, Jan 9, 2013, 8:00 am to Thu, Jan 10, 2013, 7:59 am

Beginning in January a suite of large-scale artworks by Professor Frank Galuszkawill be installed on the walls of the University House, thanks to the initiative of Arts Dean David Yager.

Representing one of the artist's dominant creative styles, the pieces are distinguished by surface tesserae of highly reflective, transparent mica panels which create a shimmering surface. The highly refractive surfaces help to create an ever-changing play of gleaming light throughout the artworks. The installation will be formally inaugurated by Dean Yager and Chancellor Blumenthal at an upcoming reception.

The Galuszka installation represents a new alliance highlighting visual culture between the Arts Division and the Chancellor, one which is expected to continue indefinitely into the future. "I am delighted to have Frank Galuszka's mica paintings residing at University House this year," said Chancellor Blumenthal, "and I look forward to continuing this creative collaboration with the Arts Division and its artists."”

Frank Galuszka, who teaches painting and drawing for the Art Department, came to UCSC in 1995 from Philadelphia, where he was tenured at University of the Arts and before that taught at Temple University's Tyler School of the Arts both in Philadelphia and in Rome.
