The UCSC Art Department is Pleased to Welcome our New Faculty member Enrique Leal
Assistant Professor in Art
Through his work in various print media, Leal has sought to introduce alternative interpretations regarding the practice of printmaking by reviewing its material, historical and conceptual attributes.
Leal was born in Brazil and received a BFA from Polytechnic University of Valencia, College of Fine Arts in San Carlos, and then attended the University of Castilla La Mancha, Spain College of Fine Arts in Cuenca to earn an MFA and a PhD.
He was most recently an Associate Professor (PhD) at the Facultad de Bellas Artes de Cuenca, Universidad de Castilla La Mancha, Spain, and has lectured at universities in Europe, the United States and Brazil.
Leal has received fellowships to the Spanish Academy in Rome, Akademie der Bildenden Künste of Munich and Rutgers Center of Innovative Print and Paper (Brodsky Center).
Public and corporate collections that hold his work include New York Public Library, Menil Collection, Calcografía Nacional Madrid, Bibliotheque Nationale Paris, Merril Lynch, Madrid.
