Two photographers engage the social & political memory of historical imagery
KAROLINA KARLIC’s practice is invested in the representation of American culture and diasporic existence surrounding industry and labor. Her work Rubberlands, a transmedia work, examines the social history of the rubber industry, Henry Ford’s influence on the industrial – agricultural landscape in Brazil with a focus on the reforestation projects at a Michelin rubber plantation – Atlantic Forest.
TAMARA CEDRÉ is interested in documentary photography as a discursive practice. As a Diasporican, her current work responds to historical imagery dipicting the island territory of Puerto Rico; at once reclaiming and reconstructing images that surround the locus of her family’s home that is in current jeopardy.
