Terra Systema -  Momentum

Christina Seely’s work focuses on global systemics and aims to use tools of human comprehension (scaling to the human body, the temporal or narrative, mirroring, and the experiential, etc.,) to help a public register the abstract complexities of climate change. In her talk Seely will reflect on topics related her recent exhibition on the current extinction crisis Next of Kin: Seeing Extinction Through the Artist Lens, at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, and her latest project, Terra Systema, recently on view at EUQINOM Projects Gallery in San Francisco. Terra Systema aims to scale the planetary to the human body through the transmogrification of the breath and flow of the planet’s respective respiratory and circulatory system, the tropical rainforest and the melt of the Greenland ice sheet. At an unprecedented moment, when both art and science are being called into question, this lecture addresses the urgent need for a bridge between emotions and scientific data in order to address and grapple with the stark realities of a tentative environmental present.
