Requirements for the Major

Frosh (2007 - 2008)

Lower-division requirements (7 courses):

Foundation Series: Quarter(s) offered:
Art 80C - Introduction to Visual Arts Fall 2007

Art 10H - 3D Foundation

OR

Art 10G -2D Foundation

Winter 2008

Spring 2008

Any 3 of the following:

20 Introduction to Drawing
21 Introduction to Computer Art
22 Introduction to Electronics for Intermedia
23 Intermedia I
*24A Introduction to Painting - Oil

*24B Introduction to Painting - Acrylic
25 Relief Printmaking
26 Introduction to Printmaking
27 Monoprinting/Mixed Media Printing
28 Introduction to Figure Sculpture
30 Introduction to Photography for Art Majors
39 Public Art I: Community, Site and Place
40 Sculpture I

*Only one of these painting classes may be used to fulfill the lower division studio requirement.

Two courses from the History of Art & Visual Culture (Only one may be from the 80 Series):

one with a Western focus
one with a Non-Western focus

Pre-Art to Art: Frosh entering 2007/2008 should complete their lower division requirements and be prepared to declare their art major by spring of their sophomore year.

Upper-division requirements (9 courses):

7 Upper Division Studio Courses
(2 of these may be Senior Studio.)

2 Upper Division Non-Studio Courses from History of Art & Visual Culture, art seminars, film theory, or critical theory seminars. Students may choose to select two upper-division courses relevant to the area of focus in consultation with a faculty adviser.

Comprehensive Requirement:

Senior Studio satisfies the Art Department comprehensive requirement. Graduating students who did not enroll in Senior Studio must enroll in 2 upper division studios and present a solo exhibit or portfolio to a full-time faculty member for critique and evaluation. Senior students should meet with their respective advisors regarding this requirement.


Junior Transfers (2007 - 2008)

Transfer students who will be juniors are required to pass a portfolio review the quarter prior to their admission to the University.
