Dioneia Ferreira in dialogue with UCSC professors

Dionéia Ferreira, one of the coordinators of the Transdisciplinary Network of the Amazon (RETA), visiting scholar at The New School, will share her experiences leading a coalition of over 100 grassroots organizations resisting environmental and social disruption in the Brazilian Amazon. The discussion will explore themes of resistance, collective care, infrastructure, democracy, climate change, and knowledge exchange across the Americas, in dialogue with UCSC faculty specializing in those areas.

This event is led by Assistant Professor Claudio Bueno (UCSC, Art Department) in collaboration with Associate Professor Eduardo Staszowski (The New School / Parsons Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability Lab (DESIS Lab) and Professor Jessica Taft (UCSC, Latin American and Latino Studies and director of Dolores Huerta Research Center).

It is co-sponsored by UCSC, Dolores Huerta Research Center for the Americas, The New University in Exile Consortium, and CAPES fellowship (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, Brazil). Thanks: UCSC, Oakes College, for holding this event at the Mural Room. Yasmine Benabdallah (Ph.D student, Film and Digital Department, Arts Division) for the translation. The curator and researcher Ligia Nobre for facilitating the partnership between UCSC and The New School. This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas Modos de Vida e Culturas Amazônicas (GEPCULTURA) from the Department of Geography of the Federal University from Rondônia (UNIR).
