Presented by the Mary Porter Sesnon Art Gallery, this roundtable discussion with students, faculty, and community leaders responds to the issues raised by Question Bridge: Black Males, on view at the Sesnon Gallery through April 6 at the University of California Santa Cruz.

Roundtable participants, including, Santa Cruz city councilmember Drew Glover, UCSC professor of history David Anthony, academic counselor Abiel Russom, retired Watsonville teacher JJ Porter, Jason Harper and other UCSC students, will come together to ask each other questions and discuss issues raised by Question Bridge: Black Males about the complexities of being Black and male in the United States. Moderated by Question Bridge lead artist Chris Johnson.

This public program fosters dialogue between black men across generations. Young black students will have the opportunity to pose questions to black men of older generations. The idea for this program came from one of the questions the video installation shows, when a younger man asks his elders, “Why didn’t you leave us the blueprint?”  The answers it elicits are nuanced, varied, and important. The “Blueprint Roundtable” allows for wide-ranging questions and important dialogues to emerge.
