Emma McWaid - Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis is a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.
This sculptural photo series explores the ways in which each of us are ever changing; being reborn into different versions of ourselves as we continue to evolve. This project is a representation of the constant adaptations that are made in order to survive comfortably in our skin. I am exploring the internal conflicts that exist with the growing pains that arise as personal identities become more complex. Growth hurts, it’s never linear, and it never makes sense until retrospect. Skin is stretched until a version of who we once thought we were is shed and we are forced to leave a place we once felt at home in. Being born into a human body gives each of us no choice but to be a living contradiction. We are so many people at once, but thankfully, identity is fluid and we have unlimited chances to metamorphosize into the most authentic versions of ourselves.
