Marceline Cyrus is a senior student new to the Santa Cruz area, who is working on growing their career as an animator. Although more comfortable with digital art, on occasion they also work with physical materials to create animations such as stop motion.
They create stories with their work that the viewer can find themselves getting lost in by highlighting the magic of the mundane. Oftentimes in our fast moving world, we find ourselves navigating through life using monumental occasions as checkpoints, but they’re influenced by the moments in life that are easy to forget. Unremarkable moments that people don't think twice about or would rather move on from, because we’re too busy focusing on chasing the next “best” moment. In reality, life is the compilation of all of your experiences; the euphoric, hilarious, agitating, painful, or plain boring moments are what fill the chapters of your life, completely unexpected and unintended, that’s the beauty of the mundane. Their art is based on remembering these moments after they have long since passed, so we can bring ourselves to appreciate the hilarity or absurdity of the moment.
