Print Media

The concepts of multiplicity and reproduction are explored through new approaches to an ancient artistic practice that incorporate contemporary social contexts. One of the most popular and vibrant programs in the arts at UCSC, exploring the relationship of contemporary print practice to visual culture.  Our program develops depth beyond mastery of specific printmaking methodologies, moving from technical skill toward a conceptual grasp of issues and trends.

The UCSC print studio is considered one of the finest on the West Coast. In its two large studios the program accommodates work in lithography, intaglio, silkscreen, book arts and digital printmaking — all within view of the breathtaking Monterey Bay.

Learn more about the printmaking studio by watching Rain Weather, Artist's Pleasure. A wonderful observational (fly on the wall) documentary filmed by UCSC alumnus Shawheen Keyani on a particularly rainy day at the printmaking studio, see more....
