Theory

The study of critical theory in art creates a culturally diverse and interdisciplinary framework that combines formal analysis and studio practice, with social, historical and political contexts. Students are trained to communicate effectively in written and verbal form on the discourses of art, theory and history relevant to their studio practice.  Critical Theory in the Art Department enables students to situate their creative production within the broader intellectual landscape of contemporary art.

The Art Department is committed to providing students with a comprehensive education in the discourses, histories, critical ideas, institutions and social forces that shape our understanding of contemporary art and visual culture.
