September 2015

Opening artist reception First Friday - September 4 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

At Michealangelo Gallery. The gallery is on River Street, across from the Tannery.

Join us for an overview of the outdoor paintings of Peter Loftus, an inadvertent documentarian of Santa Cruz over the past 25 years.

"There is an inadvertent historical aspect to much of this work, in that nothing I have painted looks like that for long. I never intended to record history, it's just that change happens. In this group you can see some paintings of downtown Santa Cruz that were painted in the early 90's. From the current vantage point, one can see that they portray the rebirth of downtown after the '89 earthquake. (Sort of like the phoenix rising from the ashes.) At the time, all I was thinking about were the bright colors and dynamic compositional opportunities being offered."
