The Art Department offers several scholarships and grant opportunities throughout the year for Art Major students in good academic standing based on outstanding work and promise in the visual arts. Announcements for these opportunities are sent by email to registered Art students.
The Irwin Project Grants are designed to fund specific student project proposals up to a maximum of $1,000. Students submit a written proposal and selected grant requests are awarded each Fall and Spring quarter.
The Irwin Scholarship is the most prestigious award in the Art Department and is awarded by faculty nomination only. Twelve students receive $2,500 and a highly-publicized group show in the Sesnon Gallery. Exceptional students from each area are invited to apply in Winter quarter and the award can be for any use.
The Eduardo Carrillo Memorial Scholarships are intended to support outstanding Art students with documented financial need with a maximum award of $1,000. The Eduardo Carrillo Scholarship supports students in painting, sculpture, or drawing areas and students are invited to apply during Winter quarter.
The Hardy Hanson Memorial Fund supports students, faculty, and visiting artists whose work remains true to the spirit of Professor Hanson's philosophy and artistic focus.
Porter College offers financial aid to Art majors who are affiliated with Porter College. There are two application processes for this award: 1) The Art + Theme is awarded during Winter quarter for $500 to students and their work is displayed in the Art Department Mini Galleries 2) Porter College students applying for the Irwin Project Grants in Spring quarter are considered with a maximum award of $1,000.
Twice a year, Porter College invites its students to apply for project funding. The College Undergraduate Fellowship assists Porter students in all fields of study in original research and artistic and/or scholarly projects. Student Project Funds support public events (organized by Porter students) of benefit to the college, campus, or off-campus communities.
Through these two programs, students are granted funds to complete projects that they otherwise may not be able to afford to undertake (though these are merit-based programs--financial need is not a part of the Committee's deliberations in awarding funds). If you know Porter students who might benefit from such support for a project planned or in process, please encourage them to apply. Students must complete their project prior to their graduation.

The Dean and Chancellor's Awards are campus-wide awards that recognize exceptional achievement in research projects or other creative activities. The purpose is to encourage outstanding scholarship and promote research as an improtant part of undergraduate education. The application process takes place in Spring quarter with an awards ceremony that occurs during Student Achievement Week, the last week of Spring quarter.
