Who are the Harrisons? internationally known environmental artists
The Harrisons are currently professors-in-residence at UCSC with the Digital Arts and New Media graduate program. Among the leading pioneers of the eco-art movement, the collaborative team of Newton and Helen Mayer Harrison (often referred to simply as “the Harrisons”) have worked for forty years with biologists, ecologists, architects, urban planners and other artists to initiate collaborative dialogues to uncover ideas and solutions which support biodiversity and community development. Feb 6, 4:30-6:00pm Opening Lecture: The Harrisons, Force Majeure
The Harrisons are professors-in-residence at UCSC with the Digital Arts and New Media graduate program and faculty emeriti from UC San Diego. Please join us for the opening lecture On Mixing, Mapping, and Territory at the Digital Arts Research Center followed by a reception at the Sesnon Gallery from 6:00-7:30pm.
The Harrisons use the term “Force Majeure” for a series of projects to explain the accelerating transaction between aspects of the Global Warming phenomenon and their interaction with the many ecosystems that are under stress or in actual turbulence from over-demand by human activity.
