Art 169-01 Special Topics in Printmaking

Cyanotype. The Heliographic Image

This remote teaching course explores the creative potential of the Cyanotype photographic process and its resurgence in contemporary art. Students will experiment with diverse techniques and topics ranging from translucent natural forms, autographic drawings, to detailed photomontage images. This is a hands-on process that produces astonishing beautiful, deep blue photographic prints. We will cover different photogram ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photogram ) and photomontage ( https://www.tate.org.uk/art/art-terms/p/photomontage ) techniques and themes such as found photography  ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Found_photography ) (with vintage photographs online) and distressed photography ( http://www.erikhoffmanphoto.com/distressed ). Students will be able to prepare and produce everything at home. Above is a selection of student work from Spring 2020 quarter.
