Curated by Jonathan Calm, this exhibit is a showcase of work by seven Bay Area photographers who also teach photography at various schools in the region. Two photographs by each artist were selected to display a sample of their respective visions, to reveal a significant connectivity - ranging from kindred sensibility to creative counterpoint - between the subjects, themes and aesthetics that interest and engage them. These images put into perspective their shared commitment to the representation of the Bay Area as a uniquely inspirational place of nature, history and community.
The exhibit highlights how these particular artistic and pedagogical practices seamlessly coexist in animating their points of view. The bodies of work manifest the Bay Area's tradition of photographic exchange between generations of teachers and students, mentors and apprentices, each with their own personal eye and method. The contributions in this show offer a celebration of their powerful legacy and of the vibrant environment that continues to nurture their creative expression of talent and generous educational impetus.
