The Dean's office is thrilled to be showing the work of Marcus Cota as part of the Exhibiting Artist Program in the Division of Social Sciences. Please join us for a reception for the artist on Wednesday, November 20, from 4:30 to 6:00p.m. in the Humanities/Social Sciences building, Suite 460.

Marcus Cota, a recent graduate of UC Santa Cruz, was a recipient of the prestigious Irwin Scholarship in the Arts Division in 2019. Using traditional printmaking practices merged with contemporary technological processes he produces hand-pulled prints that draw from Puebla, Mexica, Maya, Chicana/o and Latinx imagery. His mural-like pieces unify the past and present, seeking to actively bridge the gaps in an identity forged from generations of colonization and assimilation. The intersectionality of his identity allows him to connect and provide indigenous representation from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, and to show a future where ancestry and culture continue to thrive.

Marcus Cota's work will be on view until February 1, 2020.
