Travis Shaffer’s artist practice is located at the intersections of photography, artist publishing, and media theory. He has been a member of an international cooperative of book artists [ABC] since 2010 and founded a risograph publishing imprint [theretherenow] in 2016. In addition to being housed within prominent public collections, Shaffer’s solo works, collaborative projects, and artists' books have been exhibited internationally at museums, galleries, photography festivals, and art book fairs.

Theretherenow, founded by Travis Shaffer in 2016, is an independent small press and research project. Based in Columbia, Missouri, theretherenow operates under Shaffer's leadership as an Assistant Professor in the School of Visual Studies at the University of Missouri. Shaffer is a member of the Artists' Books Cooperative (ABC) and has gained recognition for his artist's books, which are housed in prestigious public and private collections worldwide, including MoMA's and SFMoMA's Artist's Books Collections, the Tate Library and Archives, and Yale's Beinecke Rare Book + Manuscript Library among others.

Shaffer's works have been exhibited in galleries and museums such as C/O Berlin and the Museum Brandhorst in Germany, Gagosian Galleries in New York, Paris, and Beverly Hills, Arts Santa Monica in Barcelona, and FotoMuseum Provincie Antwerpen. Additionally, Shaffer's works have been featured in major photography and book art festivals and fairs, including Les Rencontres d'Arles, the Brighton Photo Biennial, Printed Matter's NY and LA Art Book Fairs, Offprint Paris, and Offprint London.
